WHAT IS A HILL CLIMB?

Hill Climbing is a motorsport event which pits you and your car against a challenging uphill course.

It's the art of driving a car on cold tyres as quickly and neatly as possible around the corners and up the hill, up a bitumen road sometimes no wider than a garden path.

Each run up the hill provides its own challenge to improve on your past times and beat the other cars in your class, or to aim for the fastest time of the day.

The event comprises practice and competition timed runs, allowing drivers to try their hardest to improve their times during the event.

The winners are the ones with the fastest times for the event in each class, and the overall winner is the one with the fastest time on the day.

One of the most social motorsports, hill climbing at all levels provides a friendly atmosphere for you to gather with co-competitors and spectators, to watch and assist each other while providing an exciting competition.

WHAT KIND OF CAR DO I NEED?

Hill Climb events are suitable for everything from road cars to purpose-built hill climb cars. Your choice of vehicle will determine the class in which you compete. You'll need a few basic safety items to meet Motorsport Australia requirements - a seat belt, fire extinguisher and helmet. You'll also be required to wear non-synthetic clothing that covers you from wrist to neck to ankle (such as a long sleeve cotton t-shirt and denim jeans).

DO I NEED A LICENCE?

You don't need a regular driver's licence to compete, but you will need a Motorsport Australia licence in order to compete. This can be obtained by completing the licence application form found here.  The cost is $145 for Adults or $35 for juniors aged 13-17 years, and the licence will last for 12 months. Alternatively, you can sign up at most VMCi run events - just give the organiser of the event a call to check that sign up will be available on site.
